EDMONTON - Employees and customers of an Edmonton car dealership were struggling to deal with a Friday morning shooting in which two men were killed and a third man was sent to hospital.

Police said shots rang out at Great West Chrysler Jeep, in the city's west end, shortly before 8 a.m. as customers were dropping off their vehicles to be serviced.

"Police received a phone call from Great West Chrysler Jeep advising that a male came in to the dealership. Shots were fired," Insp. Denis Jubinville said.

"Police arrived on scene and they found that three males had been shot. Two are deceased - one believed to be the shooter. The third is at hospital at this time."

Police would not comment on what the motivation may have been behind the shooting, if the gunman shot himself or if the gunman was a dealership employee.

No information was released about the men who were killed or the medical condition of the wounded man.

The Edmonton Sun reported that workers at Great West Chrysler identified the gunman as Dave Burns. The workers said Burns was recently fired from the service department for making racial slurs.

The Sun also quoted a woman who said her husband was dropping off his truck for service Friday morning when he saw the gunman shoot one of the victims before reloading and turning the gun on himself.

"He heard shots and saw him reload or whatever," Sherry Motowylo said. "He's shook up but he's all right."

Jubinville said police were interviewing employees and customers at the dealership as forensic and other officers were investigating the crime scene.

"We are working with management right now to assist them," he said. "Obviously this is not the kind of scene we deal with every day. A lot of people within are shaken up."

The owner and managers at Great West Chrysler were not available for comment.

A recorded phone message said the dealership is closed for the day.

Chrysler Canada officials declined to be interviewed but issued a statement about the shooting deaths.

"We are deeply saddened by the incident that took place at the dealership in Edmonton," said Mary Gauthier, a Chrysler spokeswoman. "Our thoughts are with those involved and their families."
