Riders win Labour Day Classic

The Saskatchewan Roughriders edged the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 35-30 in the Labour Day Classic. The game, featuring the return of Weston Dressler to the Rider roster, was a close one from start to finish. Quarterback Darian Durant attempted 26 passes while completing 14, for 204 yards and one touchdown. Durant became the winningest quarter back in the Labour Day Classic's history with a 6-0 record. The Riders' record is 7-2, and their next game is against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the Banjo Bowl.

Other scores from Week 10 were: the Montreal Alouettes beat the Ottawa Redblacks 20-10, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats got past the Toronto Argonauts 13-12 and the Calgary Stampeders beat the Edmonton Eskimos 28-13.

In NCAA Football, the No.1 Florida State Seminoles got past the Oklahoma State Cowboys 37-31 in a close game. The Seminoles record is 1-0, and their next game is against the Citadel Bulldogs.

Other scores from Week 1 were: the No. 21 Texas A&M Aggies hammered the No. 9 South Carolina Gamecocks 52-28, the No.5 Ohio State Buckeyes beat the Navy Midshipmen 34-17 and the Oregon Ducks destroyed the South Dakota Coyotes 62-13.

In NCAA Division 1AA Football, the North Dakota State Bison took out the Iowa State Cyclones 34-14. The Bison were down 14-0 before scoring 34 unanswered points. The Bison’s record is 1-0 and their next game is against the Weber State Wildcats.

In NFL preseason, the Seattle Seahawks lost to the Oakland Raiders 41-31 in a one-sided game. The Seahawks finished the preseason with a 2-2 record and they will open the regular season against the Green Bay Packers.

Other scores were: the New England Patriots beat the New York Giants 16-13, the San Diego Chargers got past the Arizona Cardinals 12-9, and the Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 34-14.

In Major League Baseball, the Seattle Mariners took one of three games from the Washington Nationals. The Mariners are in third place in the American League West.
