The Estevan Rodeo will once again offer three days worth of activities, starting on September 5.
The rodeo features competitors from the Canadian Cowboys Association (CCA). Rodeo chair Laura Mantei expects there will be approximately 200 competitors at the rodeo, including at least 15 local entrants.
Performances will be at 7 p.m. on September 5 and 6. A “slack” performance will happen at 10 a.m. on the 6th for performers who can't make the evening shows.
Events for the rodeo include saddle bronc, bareback, bull riding, team roping, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, ladies' barrel racing and junior girls' barrel racing. There is a novice division for the saddle bronc and bareback events.
A fireworks show will happen after the rodeo on the 6th.
Other activities will be happening throughout the weekend in conjunction with the rodeo. The annual SMILE Services Estevan Parade will start at 4 p.m. on September 6.
This year’s parade theme is Celebrating our Agricultural Community.
The parade will follow the traditional route, starting at the intersection of First Street and 16th avenue. It will continue on First Street, passing Hillview Manor, and then moving onto 14th Avenue. It will then proceed down Fourth Street - past the court house – and onto Souris Avenue. Then it will move to to Fifth Street, 13th Avenue and Eighth Street, before ending at the Leisure Centre parking lot.
The annual light horse show will be on September 7, starting at 8 a.m. Dozens of events will be offered for local equestrian riders.
The weekend will conclude with the ranch rodeo on September 8. The rodeo consists of teams competing in different rodeo events. Each team will have a celebrity captain who will also compete.
The ranch rodeo will start at 1 p.m.
