Pre-design work on part of Highway 39 begins

Pre-design work has started for the twinning of eight kilometres of Highway 39 between Estevan and Bienfait.

The twinned portion of highway is slated to started at the Sawyer Safety access road on the eastern outskirts of Estevan, and continue to a point that is south of the junction of Highways 39 and 18.

“One tenet of the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth is building the infrastructure that responds to the challenges of an expanding economy, and creates the conditions for future prosperity,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Nancy Heppner said.

”This is one of the first projects under our Highway 6 and 39 Twinning Strategy, and an important project for a vibrant area of our province.”

The work includes surveying, geotechnical investigation and environmental assessment.  This will help ensure the safest and most efficient design for the project.

Residents can expect the work to last into the fall. There will be minimal disruption to traffic while the work is being done.

Once the pre-design work has concluded, the project will move into detailed design.
