Newcomers will learn about golf

Local newcomers will learn to golf during an introductory session hosted by Southeast Newcomer Services (SNS) on Monday, August 25 at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course.

SNS program manager Sarah Mehler said that assistant pro Amanda Minchin will be leading participants through a 90-minutes lesson, starting at 6 p.m. at Woodlawn's driving range.

"We have a lot of people on board that are excited to learn how to golf, and have never golfed before," said Mehler.

Fourteen people have registered, Mehler said, and likely an ideal number for the clinic.

The event will also serve as an opportunity for newcomers to meet new people and make friends, she said.

Mehler is hopeful that the golf session could become an annual event. She added that SNS might also try to have a learn-to night for a winter sport, such as curling, at some point in the future.
