Local athlete William Chamney competed in the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Langley, B.C., from August 15 to 17, and performed well.

On the 15th, he competed in the 100-metre dash, and finished 12th out of 25 competitors, with a time of 11.66 seconds.

The following day, Chamney was part of a team that finished seventh out of 10 teams in the 4X100-metre relay, with a time of 44.46 seconds. And on the final day of competition, he competed in the 200-metre dash, and he came in 10th out of 25 entrants, with a time of 22.87 seconds.

Chamney said that he met the expectations that he had going into nationals.

“I was pretty happy with my results for how I did, seeing how much competition there is,” he said.

The national championship was the final competition of the year for Chamney, and he believes that he improved from the beginning of the track and field season.

This was the last year that Chamney was eligible for the Legion Youth National Championships, and he hopes that he can compete in different competitions next year.

“I’m just going to compete in school track and see where I can go after that,” he said.

Overall Chamney said that he enjoyed the national championships, as it was a great experience.
