The Estevan Hotel Association has started a contest, called Estevan 25K, to promote events in the community.
It grants people a chance to win $25,000 that will go towards hosting an event.
According to Estevan Chamber of Commerce marketing and events manager Rebecca Westling, the event can be anything, as long that it is going to take place in Estevan or surrounding area.
It could be a concert, a sporting event or anything that someone “dreams” of having in Estevan, Westling said.
Events that are already submitted for the contest include a weekend winter festival, music festivals, a fishing derby, and a week-long baseball camp.
The main idea of the contest is to promote tourism in Estevan, Westling said.
“This contest that we have is to get the word out there that this association is giving money to different organizations, to increase tourism in Estevan,” she said.
The hotel association gives out four grants a year, and this contest is part of that quota.
Estevan 25K is open for anyone to apply and submit their idea, but Westling said there isn’t an exact date when the contest will be ending.
The hotel association wants to increase tourism traffic and activity in Estevan, Westling said, and events are a way to attract people.
This is the first year that the hotel association has put on this contest, and people can apply for the contest on the Estevan 25K website. Also the public can vote on which event they want to see in Estevan by visiting the website.
