Weapons seized at North Portal

These items were seized at the North Portal border crossing on August 8.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has announced that the Criminal Investigations Unit has laid eight charges in two separate firearms seizure at the North Portal border crossing.

CBSA officers examined a truck and trailer on July 13, and seized a .380 semi-automatic pistol concealed in the cab of the commercial truck. The CBSA arrested Willie Stemon Goode Jr., 45, of Spring, Texas.

He was charged with three counts under the Customs Act, and two counts under the Criminal Code. He was released on recognizance, and his next court appearance will be in Estevan Provincial Court on September 8.

Then on August 8, CBSA officers examined a pick-up truck and seized a nine-millimetre pistol concealed in the centre console of the truck, and four prohibited over capacity magazines.

The CBSA arrested Nadir Abdel Torres, 34, of Mandan, N.D. He was charged with three counts under the Customs Act. He was released on $3,000 recognizance, and his next appearance in Regina Provincial Court is slated for August 25.

Officers in southern Saskatchewan have seized 27 undeclared firearms this year.
