A 30-year-old Estevan male is facing several charges, following a joint investigation by the Estevan Police Service, the Estevan and Regina RCMP detachments, and the Canada Border Services Agency.
Police seized a quantity of gamma-butyrolactone, which is commonly used in the production of the drug gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB). Armed with information gathered during the investigation, police executed a search warrant at a residence on Petterson Drive in Estevan on Thursday afternoon.
The suspect has been charged with importation of a controlled substance, unlawfully producing a substance and possession of cannabis marijuana. All three charges are under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The estimated seizure is approximately 2,000 doses, with an estimated street value of $10,000 to $20,000.
According to police, GHB – along with rohypnol – is one of the most common substances used in drug-facilitated sexual assaults.
