The Saskatchewan Roughriders edged the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 23-17 in a close, hard-fought game. The defence had a good day by forcing three turnovers that went for scores. Riders defensive end John Chick sacked Bombers quarterback Drew Willy three times. The Riders record is 4-2 and their next game is against the Montreal Alouettes, where they will unveil their new Oregon Ducks-like third jerseys.
Other scores from Week 7 were: the Calgary Stampeders hammered the Ottawa RedBlacks 38-17, the Edmonton Eskimos beat the Montreal Alouettes 33-23 and the B.C. Lions took out the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 36-29.
In the Arena Football League, the Cleveland Gladiators got past the Orlando Predators 56-46 in the American Conference Championship game. The Gladiators will face the defending champions, the Arizona Rattlers, in Arena Bowl XXVII. Arizona hammered the San Jose Sabercats 72-56 in the National Conference Championship game.
In NFL preseason, the Seattle Seahawks fell to the Denver Broncos 21-16 in a rematch of Super Bowl XLVIII. The Seahawks record is 0-1, and their next game is against the San Diego Chargers.
Other scores were: the Washington Redskins beat the New England Patriots 23-6, the Baltimore Ravens hammered the San Francisco 49ers 23-3, the San Diego Chargers beat the Dallas Cowboys 27-7 and the Tennessee Titans beat the Green Bay Packers 20-16.
In Major League Baseball, the Seattle Mariners took three of four games from the Chicago White Sox over the weekend. The Mariners are in third place in the American League West.
In NASCAR, AJ Allmendinger won the Cheez-It 355 at the Glenn. He finished ahead of Marcos Ambrose. Kevin Harvick started the race in fourth place and finished the race in seventh. The next race is the Pure Michigan 400.
