Carlyle icon up for provincial award

A famous business in Carlyle is up for a new provincial award.

The Prairie Dog Drive In is one of five finalists for the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce’s new Community Cornerstone Award, which will be handed out at the Achievement in Business Excellence Awards.

Businesses in Meadow Lake, Melfort, Prince Albert and Saskatoon are also in contention.

The Community Cornerstone Award, sponsored by SaskEnergy, is presented to a small enterprise with deep roots in its community, that shows great pride in and support for the local community, while serving as an unofficial ambassador.

A distinguishing feature of the Community Cornerstone Award is it will employ social media. Starting in early September, the public is encouraged to visit the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce website to view videos on each of the finalists, and vote daily for the business they feel is most deserving of the award.

“We are very excited about the potential of this new award,” said Sask. Chamber CEO Steve McLellan. “It celebrates those smaller businesses which are the true heart, or cornerstone, of their communities, and to allow them to engage with their customers through new media, to celebrate all the worthwhile things that their community represents.

“These finalists are great examples of how business and community can come together in a mutually beneficial relationship, and the ways in which business can embody the spirit of its community.”

Voting will take place through September and October, with the winner announced at the ABEX Awards ceremony November 1 in Regina.
