D’Autremont seeking another term

Comments

One of Saskatchewan’s longest-serving MLAs is seeking another term in the Saskatchewan Legislature.

Dan D’Autremont was acclaimed as the Saskatchewan Party’s candidate for the Cannington constituency at a meeting on August 5. He’s seeking a seventh term as Cannington’s MLA.

He was first elected as a Progressive Conservative MLA in 1991, and was re-elected in 1995. He became a founding member of the Sask. Party in 1997, and was elected as an MLA again in 1999.

He was re-elected in 2003, 2007 and 2011.

Most of his victories have been in landslide fashions.

“It has been a privilege to serve and represent these people of Cannington for the last 23 years,” said D’Autremont. “I am excited, and looking forward to continuing to represent these fine people.”

Since the Saskatchewan Party formed government in 2007, D’Autremont has served as Minister responsible for the Saskatchewan Liquor & Gaming Authority, Minister for Government Services and Minister for the Information Technology Office.

In December of 2011, D’Autremont was elected to serve as speaker of the Legislative Assembly. He also chairs several committees.

“We have seen a lot of success come to our corner of the province in the last few years,” D’Autremont said.  “We have seen a new long-term care facility in Redvers, and a new school in Oxbow, but there is still more work to be done.”

D’Autremont says he is proud of the Saskatchewan Party government’s record, and feels that Premier Brad Wall is a strong leader. D’Autremont is looking forward to continued growth and action under Wall’s leadership.

“Premier Brad Wall has helped put Saskatchewan on the map,” said D’Autremont. “People all around Canada and the world now recognize and know that Saskatchewan is a great place to be”

The Sask. Party has nominated 37 candidates for the upcoming provincial election.

Estevan MLA Doreen Eagles, who is another long-time Sask. Party MLA, has yet to announce if she’ll seek another term in the legislature.
