Movie theatres or the couch?

Comments

When a new movie comes out, there is usually the dilemma of to see it in theatres, or wait till it`s on DVD, or now, Netflix.

I personally like going to the theatre to go watch a movie. You got the big screen and the surround sound to make the movie that more enjoyable. And the Orpheum Theatre is a great place to watch a movie, especially with its new second theatre. But is it really worth the price to go out and watch a movie?

By the time you buy the ticket for the show and then the snacks, the price adds up. And in some cases, it would be better just to wait until it comes on video, and you can watch it as many times as you want, in the comfort of your own home.

Now these days, people have those flat screen HD televisions, so you can watch it from the comfort of your couch, and you don’t have to sit through all of those previews at the theatre.

With the internet, once the movie is available on DVD, you can watch the show for free, as some websites stream the movies, and you don`t have to even have to illegally download them.

So with options like that, you don`t even have to buy the movie. You can just watch it on the internet for free.

And again, technology is improving as there are some HD computer monitors.

The thing with theatres is, if you go to see a popular movie, it usually draws large crowds, and maybe you sit beside people who are talking through the whole movie. And so it becomes a waste of money because you can’t enjoy the show.

I also enjoyed renting movies once they came out, because if you are only going to watch it once that is the way to go.

But again, with the internet and many ways to watch the movie for free, you don`t see many movie rental places out there anymore. Also, services like Netflix are a reason why there are only a few rental movie stores. Why rent when you can watch a lot of movies for a decent monthly free?

But sometimes I am impatient and I don’t want to wait until the movie is on DVD or on Netflix, so I go to the Orpheum, and see it on the big screen, with the great picture and sound.
