Repairs were nearly finished

Mayor Roy Ludwig was hopeful that 13th Avenue could be open to traffic on July 31.

Mayor Roy Ludwig was hopeful that 13th Avenue from Fourth Street to Sixth Street could be reopened on July 31.

The vital road, and the 13th Avenue railway crossing, have both been closed for much of this month due to ongoing roadwork. Crews replaced the underground works, resurfaced 13th from Fourth Street to Sixth Street, and repaired the sidewalks.

The intersection of 13th Avenue and Sixth Street has also been rebuilt.

“If we don’t have any unforeseen incidents or weather issues, we should be done on Thursday morning (July 31) and able to open it up for traffic,” said Ludwig.

There might be some lingering issues on 13th, Ludwig said, but hopefully nothing that would require the road to be closed again.

Due to the railway crossing’s closure, traffic has been diverted to the railway crossings at Sister Roddy Road and Kensington Avenue, creating traffic backlogs on those roads and others in the city.
