The Seattle Mariners resumed play after the All-Star Break by winning only one of three games against the Los Angeles Angels. The one win for the Mariners in the series came on July 19, when they won 3-2. The Mariners remain in third place in the American League West Division, and they are 1 1/2 games up on the New York Yankees for the final wild card spot.
In the Western Major Baseball League, the Regina Red Sox got past the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets 5-3 in a close game. The Red Sox continue to hold first place in the East Division.
CFL scores from Week 4 were: the Edmonton Eskimos beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 26-3, the Ottawa RedBlacks got past the Toronto Argonauts 18-17, the B.C. Lions destroyed the Montreal Alouettes 41-5 and the Calgary Stampeders outlasted the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 10-7.
In the Arena Football League, the Cleveland Gladiators hammered the Jacksonville Sharks 62-20 in a one-sided game. The Gladiators have the best record in Arena football at 16-1, and they will close out the regular season against the Tampa Bay Storm.
Other scores from Week 19 were: the Arizona Rattlers beat the Portland Thunder 65-47, the Pittsburgh Power edged the Iowa Barnstormers 59-56, and the San Antonio Talons beat the L.A. Kiss 72-65.
In Major League Soccer, the Toronto FC tied the Houston Dynamo 2-2 in a good game. Toronto’s record is 7-5-5 and they are in third place in the Eastern Conference.
In the world of golf, Rory McIlroy won the British Open by two strokes over Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler, who were tied for second. McIlroy joins Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods to win three different majors by the age of 25.
