The TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course hosted their first Golf 101 event on July 14, with 26 people in attendance.
The event allowed the public to learn the basics of golf, as well as what the golf course has to offer.
“We just basically showed them the way you can make a tee time, showed them our facility upstairs, the locker rooms, where the driving range was, and where the putting green was,” said Woodlawn head pro and general manager Brian Dueck.
During the evening, Dueck said that they had a couple of people golf the first hole and they gave them pointers about the sport.
Dueck said they want people to feel more comfortable with the course, as they showed participants how to rake a sand trap, and told them to tee up the ball if they miss a shot.
The event was directed toward beginner golfers.
“When you have a brand new golfer come out to golf, you don’t just throw them out on the golf course," said Dueck. “If they've never shot before, take them out to the driving range and let them hit balls.”
The event was also meant to draw more people to the golf course, said Dueck.
An open forum allowed people to ask questions about the golf course.
Dueck said the feedback from the event was positive, and that they will host Golf 101 once a year.
