Legion donates to nursing home

Comments

(L-R) Estevan Royal Canadian Legion past-president Eileen Rosner, president Troy LeBlanc, Estevan Regional Nursing Home resident John Fowler, staff members Sarah Veroba and Christine Stephany, resident Ivan Humphries and Legion first vice-president Lyle Dukart participated in presentations on July 21, including the chair that Fowler is seated in.

The Estevan Royal Canadian Legion has purchased nearly $10,000 in equipment that will benefit residents of the Estevan Regional Nursing Home (ERNH).

The biggest item was a new soothing chair, worth nearly $5,000, that can be used for Alzheimer's patients. The chair helps with the mobility and independence for its users.

The Legion has also donated 10 wheeled tables to the ERNH. Not only can the tables be used for eating in the dining room, but staff members can place a meal on a table, and easily take it down to a resident's room.

The funds came through the local Legion's poppy fund.

Estevan Legion president Troy LeBlanc said they had discussions with the ERNH's staff` on items that they could purchase to support the nursing home. At first they were going to buy the tables, but after further discussions, they learned that the chair would also be beneficial.
