Summer reading program begins

Brooklyn Christenson works on her balloon-powered race car at the Estevan Public Library's summer reading program.

The Estevan Public Library is giving local youth a chance to enjoy various activities, while emphasizing reading, during its annual summer reading program.

The program kicked off on July 8. There will be two sessions on each of Tuesdays and Thursdays, and one on Wednesdays.

This year's theme is Eureka!

Summer reading program coordinator Amanda Gagnon said they have 39 young people signed up, and they're still accepting registrations. Youth will typically attend once a week.

Children as young as four are registered in the program.

In addition to reading, activities include crafts, board games and possibly movies. The crafts will be related to a book.
