The Estevan KPC Mosquito AAA Sluggers are hosting the 10-team provincial championship July 18 to 20 at Luscar Park.
The Sluggers will open the tournament on July 18 against the Regina Buffalos.
“Coming into provincials, we are fairly confident where we’re at… we were hoping for a few more wins on the season but we’re pretty excited going into provincials,” said Ryan Siever.
Estevan also plays the Saskatoon BJ Crush on the 18th and the Saskatoon Cardinals on the 19th. They are matched up against the Saskatoon All-Star A’s on the 20th to conclude the round robin.
The Sluggers finished last in their league with a 2-14 record, but Siever believes the team has improved throughout the year.
“I’m hoping that they saw that they’ve improved and that they can play well,” he said.
The tournament consists of two pools of five teams, and the top teams in each pool after round robin play advance to the gold medal game.
Siever said that he expects there will be competitive baseball throughout the tournament.
“We’re looking forward to putting on a good provincials here for all of the teams, and we wish everyone the best of luck, but hopefully the Estevan team will be the one that is going to pull it out at the end,” he said. “We’re ready to go and hopefully the kids are going to show up and play well.”
Three teams from the Sluggers' league will be competing at provincials: the Buffalos, the Regina White Sox and the White Butte Broncos.
