Fire chief is retiring

Estevan Fire and Rescue Services Chief Ron Tocker has decided to retire.

Tocker's retirement doesn't take effect until September 18, but is currently using up accrued vacation time. Estevan City manager Amber Smale said Tocker's decision wasn't a surprise, as Tocker is eligible to retire in the fall.

Tocker has been Estevan's fire chief since the fall of 2009. Prior to then, he spent many years as the deputy fire chief.

Dale Feser, who has been the deputy fire chief for more than four years, has been named the acting fire chief.

Smale said the City of Estevan will begin a search for Tocker's replacement this month. She is hopeful that someone will be in place before Tocker's retirement officially begins.
