The Southern Plains Co-op celebrated the grand reopening of its food store in Estevan on June 13.
The store has several new attributes, including décor, signage within the building, shelving, check-outs, cabinets, display cases and refrigeration. Board president Robert Grimsrud said the latter was particularly needed. The outside of the building has a new look, too, with changed vestibules and a new colour scheme.
Several large windows have also been added.
This was the first major renovation for the grocery store since it opened in 1999.
“I remember the grand opening in May (of 1999) …. and, of course, that was very exciting, because this was a completely new project and endeavour for us,” said Grimsrud.
Federated Cooperatives Limited president Clint "Dusty" MacDonald, who used to be on the Southern Plains Co-op board, said the new grocery store looks great, and he expects it will serve the community for many more years.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held, and cake was served to those in attendance.
