Got to love fair food

Comments

With the Estevan fair just around the corner, there are people, mostly young, who are excited for the rides that come along with the event

I’m the exact opposite. I enjoy the food that comes along with the midway. Some might disagree, because the midway's food is usually unhealthy, deep fried and loaded with sugar. (This statement does not include local food vendors).

But isn’t that the point? Forget about eating healthy and enjoy the midway's food because it’s a once a year event? And some of the food that the vendors offer you cannot get on a regular base in Estevan.

I enjoy all of the food offered at the fair, including the local food vendors, but some of my favourites include the deep fired goodness of the elephant ears and mini donuts, and I also really like the pizza by the slice as well.

When it comes to eating at the fair, it can be pricy, but I do believe that it’s better than spending the majority of your money on the games, as they are also pricey as well. With the games you’re never guaranteed a prize, and for me, by the time I win something, I end up paying more than what the prize is actually worth. With the food, I'm guaranteed something good.

Also, the majority of the games are rigged, so it's hard to win and be satisfied after you're done playing them. But with the food, you know what you’re going to get and that is some deep-fried surgery deliciousness.

Some people are not fans of midway's food because it isn't healthy, but also because of the handling of it. Those trucks that the food is prepared and sold in are probably not first rate like a five-star restaurant's kitchen, but the food is too delicious to ignore.

The rides are typically the main attraction for the fair, but the food is what gets me to attend. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy the amusement and the thrill of the rides, but after a couple rides or so, I'm ready for more corn dogs.

The fair is a three-day event, but I usually attend the one day, unlike some who go all three nights, since they get to have something to do.

And with my midway eating habits, it's probably a good thing that I go for just one night.
