When the family gets together

Dear Father:

Although we've already spoken a number of times today, I want to put into writing my words of thanksgiving for this past week's journey.

As you know, I traveled out of province, where I met with family members who'd come from around the world for the common purpose of fellowship.

Our gathering reminded me, albeit only in a theological sense, of what Heaven is going to be like. Obviously, I've not been there yet, but if the feeling is to be duplicated at all on Earth, this had to be it.

There were greetings, hugs included, from long-time friends representing cities and villages from across Canada, Central America, Africa, Taiwan and Europe. Then there were those new bonds of friendship forged between me and brothers and sisters from those and even more countries.

Language barriers dissolved in the presence of the love you have fostered in our hearts for every member of your family.

I did notice that there was a lot more white hair present, though that should come as no surprise, given that it's more than a decade since I last attended such an event. Looking around, I realized with greater than usual clarity that going home to be with you is getting closer.

What filled me with overwhelming joy, however, was the presence of so many younger people; their obvious love for you filled the place and prompted an atmosphere of celebration.

I'm back to my usual routine again but in truth, I am not, for something deep and beautiful transpired within my soul while I was there. Thank you, Father, for reminding me of who I am, of the family to which I belong and above all, for your hand in bringing us all together.

Until we meet in person,

Your grateful daughter
