Eight members of the Estevan Mermaids Synchronized Swim Club have made the Synchro Saskatchewan High Performance Program.
Tryouts were held in Saskatoon on May 31.
Hannah Whitman, Hannah Mantei, Gemma Bittman, Brooke Kruger, Nyla Dyck, Danika Poirier, Marlie Weinrauch and Kelsey Potoma were chosen for the program.
Tests that were held during the competition included speed swimming, dry land and eight water synchro routines.
The Mermaids trained all through the month of May for this tryout, as 10 of the club's 20 competitive members went to the evaluation. There were 31 athletes from across Saskatchewan that made it into the development program, and the eight members from the Mermaids comprise 25 percent of the team.
Head coach Brenda Lyons said that she is proud of the athletes who got into the program, as they performed at their very highest level.
Also, Mackenzie Dahl of the Mermaids was placed into the excellence program, and had the fifth highest result in the testing.
