Steven Pfeifer (11) and Les McLenehan (29) raced their modifieds on May 31 at the Estevan Motor Speedway.

Strong winds and lighting forced officials at the Estevan Motor Speedway to call off the program May 31 during the feature race of the modified class.

The program started earlier than scheduled, and laps for the heat and feature races were reduced in an effort to complete the program before the storm arrived, but the weather still became a factor.

Marketing and promotions manager Tracy Lewis-Miller said that there were funnel clouds reported southwest of the track. And they also called off the race because there was lightning in the area, and safety is their top priority.

The hobby stocks were the only class that finished their feature race. Brad King took first place.

King started the race in 12th position out of 25 cars, and gradually moved up to the front of the pack. On the last lap, King and Blair Hanson were side by side competing for first and got caught in a pile up. But King escaped with the victory, and Hanson finished fifth.

Blake Penna was second and Carl Hanson was third, while Dylan Crozier finished fourth.

In the modified feature race, the drivers only completed nine laps of 20 laps. They will start the race from scratch prior to the start of the next program on June 13.

Features for the stock car and late model classes were also postponed.

The stock car feature will happen on the 13th as well.

Late models will make up their feature on June 28.

The next events for the speedway will be a double-header June 13 and 14. The NSTR Super Trucks will be at the track for both days. The races will start at 7 p.m.
