Police report for May 26 to 29


Estevan Police Service members were dispatched to a central Estevan establishment on Thursday, on a report of someone who had punched and broken a mirror, and punched a hole into a wall. A 29-year-old male was arrested upon police arrival, and transported to the police station, where he was lodged in cells until sober. He was charged with mischief, and will appear in Estevan Provincial Court on July 7.

An 18-year-old female was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and hashish, as a result of a traffic stop in central Estevan. She will also make her first court appearance on July 7.

Police were dispatched to a central Estevan residence for a noise complaint. The 37-year-old female was charged for making a loud and unnecessary noise.

Officers initiated a traffic stop in central Estevan, which resulted in a 21-year-old male being arrested for public intoxication under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act, and for possession of marijuana. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on June 30.

A motorist was issued a 24-hour driving suspension after providing a breath sample into a screening device.

A 30-day suspension was served to a Novice 2 driver who provided a breath sample to an alcohol screening device.

A number of violations under the Traffic Safety Act and the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act – including having open alcohol in a vehicle, speeding, driving an unregistered vehicle and violating a city bylaw – resulted in charges.

Police received a couple driving complaints on Wednesday. One motorist was reported to have almost struck a pedestrian at the corner of Souris Avenue South and Fourth Street. The pedestrian, who was attempting to cross, had to run out of the way to avoid being struck. Police did not immediately locate the vehicle and its driver, but witnesses were able to get a licence plate number and pass it along to police. The investigation into this is ongoing.

Officers issued numerous summary offence tickets during the day, and the majority of them were for speeding and failing to wear a seat belt.

Police are investigating a report of criminal harassment that has been occurring in the city over the last little while. 

Members were called to the intersection of Sixth Street and 13th Avenue on Tuesday night, after a large truck struck the crossing arm at the railway track. The truck continued on, as the operator did not realize he had hit the arm. Police located the operator and the matter has been referred to SGI.

Police were dispatched to a disturbance at a local convenience store. The matter was resolved upon arrival, and the subject involved was sent on his way. 

A report of an impaired driver was also received. Police located the vehicle a short time later. The operator was sober. The matter has been concluded.

Police were called to a motor vehicle accident near a local hotel on Monday. Upon arrival, officers noted the damage to the involved vehicle to be very minor. The vehicle had struck a guard rail. However, upon speaking with the driver of the vehicle, police noted he was extremely incoherent. It was determined he was suffering from a medical condition, and required emergency treatment. EMS was contacted, at which point the subject was treated and transported to hospital. 

Two male subjects were charged with suspended driving on two separate vehicle stops. The individuals also had their vehicles seized for a minimum of 30 days.   

While on patrol, police located a vehicle parked in the Pleasantdale area with a broken side window. The owner was contacted and advised. The matter remains under investigation. 

Police responded to a mischief report that occurred in south Estevan. Suspects erected a sign in the front yard of a residence that was derogatory in nature. Suspects were spoken to, and the matter was resolved. 

A theft was reported from a boat that was parked in northeast Estevan. A fish finder and a trolling motor were stolen. The matter remains under investigation.

Police were called to a northeast Estevan apartment complex for a fire alarm. It was determined that the alarm was false, due to maintenance being performed. No further action was required.

Officers were called to a north-central business on the report of a male attending the business and harassing an employee. The matter remains under investigation.

Police received a report of a male who uttered threats to a female by cell phone. The matter remains under investigation.

Members were dispatched to a north Estevan convenience store on the report of a theft. The male youth was confronted by staff, but left the store before police arrived. The matter remains under investigation.

Police were dispatched to a central Estevan business on the report of cocaine being found in the public washroom. A 35-year-old female is under investigation as a result, and charges are pending.
