The Edmonton Oil Kings have won the 2014 MasterCard Memorial Cup, beating the Guelph Storm 6-3 in the final. The Oil Kings finished the round-robin with a 1-2 record, then won the semi-final against the Val-d’Or Foreurs 4-3 in triple overtime. This is the first title for the modern Oil Kings. The last time they won it was back in 1966, when the original Oil Kings won it, but then that franchise relocated to Portland.
In the National Lacrosse League, the Calgary Roughnecks beat the Rochester Knight Hawks 10-7 in Game 1 of the league finals. The Roughnecks will face the same Knight Hawks in Game 2.
In NCAA Baseball, the No. 8 Florida Gators lost to the Louisiana State University Tigers 2-0 in the South Eastern Conference Tournament Final. The Gators will face the College of Charleston Cougars in the NCAA Gainesville Regional.
In Major League Baseball, the Seattle Mariners split a four-game series with the Houston Astros. The Mariners are in fourth place in the American League West.
In the Arena Football League, the Cleveland Gladiators beat the Philadelphia Soul 54-52 in a close game. The Gladiators record is 9-0, and their next game is against the Pittsburgh Power.
Other scores from Week 11 were: the San Jose Sabercats hammered the Spokane Shock 52-34, the Pittsburgh Power got past the Orlando Predators 62-61, and the Arizona Rattlers took a bite out of LA Kiss 70-25.
In NASCAR, Jimmie Johnson won the Coca-Cola 600. Johnson finished ahead of Kevin Harvick, who started the race in 11th. The next race is the FedEx 400.
In Major League Soccer, Toronto FC tied Sporting Kansas City FC 2-2. Toronto’s record is 4-4-1 and they are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
