Westmoreland VP to speak in Estevan

A couple of events will be happening in the Estevan area on Thursday, May 29, as part of the celebrations for Saskatchewan Mining Week.

The Westmoreland Coal Company will be offering tours of local mining and power production operations. A tour bus will be departing the Estevan Shoppers' Mall at 8:30 a.m. The tour will include Westmoreland’s Estevan mine site and the Shand Power Station.

There will also be a barbecue, and speeches from the emergency mine rescue team and Estevan mines general manager Kraig Wanner.

The other event will be a luncheon hosted by the Estevan Chamber of Commerce at the Days Inn. John Schadan, who is the vice-president of operations for Westmoreland Coal in Canada, will be the guest speaker.

Estevan Chamber of Commerce executive director Michel Cyrenne said Schadan will provide an overview of the company, their operations in the Prairie provinces, and their impact on the Estevan area.

He’ll also answer questions from the audience.
