Police report for May 14 to 18

Estevan Police Service members received a report of a possible impaired driver leaving a residence on the east end of the city on Sunday night. The vehicle was located a short distance away. The operator received a 30-day license suspension after blowing an alert reading on the roadside screening device.

A call was received regarding a male possibly smoking marijuana and operating a vehicle while impaired. This vehicle was also located, however, the driver was sober and no indication of contraband was noted. The matter was concluded.

A report of a possible gun shot in the Pleasantdale area was received. Police patrolled the area, but nothing suspicious was noted.

Police attended to the area around the No Frills grocery store after receiving a report of a male lying on the curb. On arrival, nobody was located, but police did see a vehicle leaving the area. Upon stopping the vehicle, the male was located inside, as he had been picked up by a family member. He was extremely intoxicated and was left to the care of the family member.

Two separate complaints of individuals smoking marijuana were received near a residence in the Pleasantdale area. Nobody was located in the area.

A 29-year-old male was arrested and charged with impaired driving and driving while over .08 on Saturday night, after police located the accused driving erratically in the Pleasantdale area. He will make a court appearance on June 16.

Police were also called to a local taxi stand after an intoxicated male entered the building, indicating he had been assaulted. The male was arrested, for his own safety, due to his extreme level of intoxication. He was lodged in cells until sober. The matter of the assault is being investigated.

Police were called to a noisy party at a residence in the east end of the city. The occupants were warned of the city’s noise bylaw. No further action was necessary.

A 23-year-old male was arrested and charged with impaired driving, driving while over .08, suspended driving and resisting arrest on Friday, after police stopped the vehicle he was operating. As police approached the vehicle, the accused exited and fled on foot. A foot pursuit ensued for about four blocks, at which point the suspect was caught and taken into custody. He will make a court appearance on June 16.

Police were called to a break-in at a garage on the south end of the city. The suspects had entered the garage and were scared off when confronted by the property owner. The incident is under investigation.

Officers responded to a domestic situation at a private residence on Thursday night. One of the persons involved was spoken to, and was asked to leave by the homeowner. The person left without incident.

Numerous calls were received regarding people soliciting outside of businesses. They were asking for donations, but were viewed as being too aggressive. Police spoke to several individuals about how they approach the public.

Police and the fire department investigated a strange odour at a local business. The source of the odour appeared to be a problem with the air conditioning unit.

A local drinking establishment requested police assistance to remove some patrons from the business. The customers refused to leave when asked by the staff. The four male subjects were fined $360 each under the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act for remaining at a licensed premised after being asked to leave.

Police responded to an alarm at a residence in the south area of Estevan on Wednesday night. The owner had accidentally set off the alarm.

Officers are investigating a theft of mail. A mailbox inside an apartment building was breached. Several individual mailboxes were pried open and mail was taken.

A local business requested police attend to deal with a male subject. The caller told police that the man was yelling at an employee. Police arrived and spoke to the subject, who was warned of his behaviour.

EPS received a call that a suspected impaired driver was leaving a local drinking establishment. Police located the male subject and conducted a roadside screening test. The male was taken to the police station to obtain breath samples, and failed to provide the samples. The 21-year-old male was charged accordingly, and will answer to the charge on June 16.
