Estevan Police Service members were called to a break-and-enter at a local business on Saturday night. The person responsible cut all of the window screens on one side of the building to try to gain access. Finally, one window was broken and entry was gained. In the process, the culprit cut their arm or hand. It appears to be a large cut, based on the amount of blood that was lost. Nothing from the business was taken. There was damage to a computer and several other items inside. Anyone with information is asked to call the Estevan Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
Police received a call form a person who witnessed a light-coloured, older Chevy pickup pull up to a residence on the northwest side of the city. One young male got out, grabbed a push scooter and threw it into the back of the truck. The male got into the truck and left the area. The witness advised that there were some dark-coloured graphics on the side of the pickup. The matter is under investigation.
While on patrol at the parking lot of a local bar, police witnessed a fight. A 54-year-old male assaulted another male. The person was punched several times in the face and when he was on the ground he was kicked in the head several times. The 54-year-old male was arrested for assault. He will appear in court on May 26.
An altercation broke out between two males at a convenience store over some racial slurs. When police arrived, both parties had been split apart. There had been some pushing and name-calling. Neither party wished to proceed with charges. They were warned about their behavior and sent on their way.
Officers were summoned to a noisy party on the northwest side of the city. Police attended, but everyone at the party was gone. The homeowner will be warned.
Police responded to a noise complaint in the core of the city on Friday night. On arrival, it was noted that there was loud music coming from the basement suite. The owner refused to answer the door. After a few minutes of ringing the doorbell, the music was turned off. An hour later, police received another complaint of loud music at the same property. Once again, loud music was noted, and after a short time the music was turned off. The renter of the property will be charged accordingly.
Members attended to a local convenience store, as two males were fighting. On arrival, one person was noted to be walking away. He was stopped and was recognized by police, and it was known that the young offender was on conditions not to consume alcohol. He had a strong smell of beverage alcohol. A breath test confirmed that he had alcohol in his system. Police are investigating the altercation.
Police were called back to the store a short time later to remove a male subject, as he was being loud and obnoxious.
A call came in that a person was shining a light into the window of an apartment. Nobody could be located. While police were on the scene, a vehicle had started by remote and the lights came on and were shining into the apartment in question.
Police stopped a vehicle on the north side of the city, and a 19-year-old male was arrested for breaching the conditions of his probation. The accused male is already facing multiple charges for other breaches, drug offences and an assault. He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
Members responded to disturbances that occurred in a couple of different downtown locations. A male subject was located a short distance away, and was arrested accordingly. He was released with a court date, and was placed on multiple conditions of no contact with the witnesses involved, and not to attend the businesses that he did.
Police received a call of an erratic driver in the central area of the city on Wednesday night. A license plate number was obtained and the registered owner was contacted and spoken to. The matter has since been concluded.
A barking dog complaint was reported to police. The occupants of the residence were not home at the time and the matter is still being looked into. Charges under the bylaw may result.
A parking complaint was received when a truck and trailer were reported to be blocking an alley way. The owner of the truck was contacted and the vehicle was moved.
Police were called to a disturbance on the north end of the city involving a local cab company and a male and a female. Police spoke to the individuals and resolved the matter. Alcohol was a factor in the incident.
A 29-year-old male is facing charges for impaired driving and driving while over .08, after police noted him travelling at an excessive speed. After conducting a traffic stop, police noted he had also been drinking. He will make a court appearance May 5.
Police are looking into a noise complaint as well. The subject woke up the complainant by playing loud music.
Officers were notified of some recycling bins that were set on fire in the central part of the city on Tuesday night. Some firefighters happened to be in the vicinity, and extinguished the fires before any damage could be done. The matter is under investigation.
A complaint of people throwing glass bottles was received. The suspects were believed to be guests of a local hotel and were spoken to regarding the incident. The incident is still being investigated.
Police received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers program, and the caller was able to help locate an impaired driver at his home. A 53-year-old male driver was arrested and provided breath samples that were twice the legal limit. The driver will answer to the charge in May.
