Estevan OTS recognizes Tony Naka

Tony Naka, picture here playing in this year's Oilmen's Open Bonspiel, was this year's winner of the Estevan OTS Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Estevan Oilfield Technical Society (OTS) paid tribute to the contributions of Tony Naka during this year's OTS Open Bonspiel.

Naka was presented with the OTS' Lifetime Achievement Award during the banquet that was held March 28 in conjunction with the bonspiel. OTS president Brett Campbell said that Naka was saluted for his contributions to the oil industry, the OTS and the community.

“He's been in the industry for over 60 years,” said Campbell.

A lot of people in the oil patch have turned to Naka's company, AT Naka Ltd., for their welding needs.

Naka is 92 years old, but continues to curl in the oilmen's bonspiel each year. Not only has he been a fixture at the event as a player, Campbell said that Naka has been a volunteer and a supporter.

This is the second straight year that the OTS has recognized the contributions of a long-time patch employee during the bonspiel banquet. They handed out the lifetime achievement award during a fundraising banquet for several years, but after the banquet was discontinued, the OTS made the decision to hand out the award during the bonspiel.
