Comments

Cam Lavoie makes a save in traffic in the Junior Midget Bruins' 2-0 win over Melville on March 23.

The Estevan Blue Rock Junior Midget Bruins are going to a third and deciding game in their best-of-three league final against the Melville Millionaires.

Melville won Game 1 4-2 on March 21, and had a chance to wrap up the series March 23 in Estevan. But the Bruins responded with a 2-0 victory.

After a scoreless first period in Game 1, Peyton Stevenson scored 16 seconds into the middle frame to give Estevan a 1-0 lead. Melville scored two quick goals to lead 2-1, but JJ Holma tied the game with less than eight minutes to play in the second.

Melville scored late in the second and early in the third for the win.

Game 2 was scoreless after the first two periods, but Stevenson and Erik McKersie scored less than 90 seconds apart early in the third to give Estevan a 2-0 advantage. It would hold up the rest of the game.

Cam Lavoie was in goal for both contests.

Game 3 is slated for March 27 in Melville. The winner will be champion of Hockey Regina's Midget 15 division.

The Estevan Century 21 Bantam A Bruins are going to the league final in Hockey Regina's Bantam Tier II division, thanks to a sweep of the Prairie Storm in a best-of-three semi-final.

Estevan won Game 1 6-3 on March 21 in White City, and took Game 2 8-4 in Estevan two days later.

Preston Audet scored twice in the third period, and finished with three goals and two assists, to lift Estevan to victory in Game 1. JD Gervais had a goal and two assists, while Jordan Stein and Zack Holzer had the other Estevan goals.

Cody Levesque was in goal for the victory.

The Prairie Storm scored first in Game 2, but the Bruins rattled off five straight goals in the first, and seven consecutive goals overall, to double up the Storm for the second straight game. Stein (two goals and an assist) and Audet (a goal and two assists) each had three-point games. Holzer also scored twice.

Quintin Davidson, Kyler Ward and Garret Ross also scored.

Zack Miller was the winning goalie.

Estevan will play Moose Jaw in the league final. Moose Jaw was the top team in the regular season, but the Bruins have won all six of their playoff games, and 10 straight games overall.
