The Bienfait Coalers have managed to do something that has happened just one other time in the Big 6 Hockey League's 55-year history: they have won four straight league titles.
Bienfait defeated the Midale Mustangs 5-2 on March 25 to sweep the best-of-seven league final in four straight games.
The first two games of the series left many fans expecting a longer and more gruelling match-up. Bienfait won Game 1 6-5 in double overtime on March 19 in Bienfait, and doubled the series advantage with a 3-2 overtime victory two nights later in Midale.
The Coalers then seized a 3-0 stranglehold on the series with a 7-4 win in Game 3 on March 23 in Bienfait.
They become the first team to win the league's Lincoln Cup championship four straight times since the Wawota Flyers did it from 1972 to 1975.
No team has ever won five straight Lincoln Cups.
Bienfait has also won the most Big 6 championships with 14, four more than the runner-up Carnduff Red Devils.
