Chipley wants to return to council

Lynn Chipley believes she still has something to provide to Estevan City Council.

Chipley has filed her nomination papers for the upcoming civic by-election, which will take place on Wednesday, April 23. She was a councillor from 2006 to 2012, and ran for mayor in the 2012 civic election, but was defeated by Roy Ludwig.

“I feel like I started some things that I didn't get the opportunity to finish, and I'd like to see those through,” said Chipley.

Several plans were initiated during her terms on council, including those for parks and pathways. While they likely won't be the top priorities in a new strategic plan, Chipley hopes they will be included.

“Quality of life is huge from where I sit, and from what I hear from people who are coming here,” said Chipley. “We have a lot of great facilities and a lot of great people, but I want us to feel pride in how we look, too. And I think we can do it.”

A planning committee, with representatives of council and members-at-large, might be needed in Estevan, she said. Chipley continues to receive feedback on how the city is growing, and why certain developments are allowed to occur in certain areas.

She also looks forward to continued progress for Estevan's new truck route.

Chipley said she is proud of the current members of council for what they have accomplished in the last 18 months, and Chipley believes that council and the City are now headed in the right direction.

“They are facing the reality of the situation we're in, and are going to find a positive way out of it,” said Chipley.

Chipley said Estevan has occasionally sold itself short, but the community has a lot going for it, and so long-term planning is a must.
