Music festival is underway

Students from the Grade 1 French class at Sacred Heart School/École Sacré Coeur performed at the Estevan and District Music Festival on March 17.

The 50th edition of the Estevan and District Music Festival is underway.

The showcase of local musical talent began on March 16 at St. Paul's United Church with the vocal and speech arts disciplines. Individuals and groups sang songs, recited poems and performed musical theatre numbers.

Vocal and speech arts continued until March 18.

The band and strings portion of the festival started on March 18 at the Estevan Comprehensive School. It will continue until the 20th.

The festival will pause during spring break in late March. It will resume April 6 with piano sessions that will continue until April 10.

A festival highlights and awards concert will be on Tuesday, April 15 at the Estevan Comprehensive School at 7 p.m. Jurors will select musicians from each discipline to perform at the concert. Many awards and scholarships will also be handed out.

Approximately 620 registrations were received for this year's festival, making it one of the largest in the province.
