The Philadelphia Soul opened the 2014 Arena Football season with a 66-52 loss in overtime to the defending Arena Bowl champions, the Arizona Rattlers. Soul quarterback Dan Raudabaugh attempted 35 passes, completing 22, for 266 yards and two touchdowns. Philadelphia’s next game is against the San Jose Sabercats.
Other scores from Week 1 were: the Tampa Bay Storm beat the New Orleans Voodoo 62-57, the Cleveland Gladiators beat the Pittsburgh Power 63-53, the expansion L.A. Kiss got past the San Antonio Talons 41-38 and the Orlando Predators beat the Jacksonville Sharks 49-47.
In the AHL, the Binghamton Senators swept their recent games. They beat the Norfolk 3-1 and then swept a home-and-home with the Rochester Americans.
In the WHL, the Regina Pats lost both their games to the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Pats finished the regular season with a 39-26-4-3 record, and clinched the East Division title. They will now face the same Wheat Kings in the playoffs.
In the OHL, the Windsor Spitfires split their games. They beat the Kitchener Rangers 3-2 in a shootout and lost to the Plymouth Whalers 4-1. The Spitfires will face the London Knights in the first round of the playoffs.
In the NBA, the Los Angeles Clippers won both games over the weekend. The Clippers beat the Utah Jazz 96-87 and they beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-80.
In Major League Baseball spring training, the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 5-3. The Mariners are in second place in the Cactus League.
In NCAA Baseball, the Florida Gators took two of three games from the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Gators are in a four-way tie for first in the South Eastern Conference East Division.
