Coalers win Big 6 final opener

Comments

The Bienfait Coalers defeated the Midale Mustangs 6-5 on March 19 in Game 1 of the best-of-seven Big 6 Hockey League final.

Game 2 will be played March 21 in Midale.

The remaining games are: Game 3 is March 23 in Bienfait, Game 4 is March 25 in Midale and Game 5, if necessary, would be the following night in Bienfait. Game 6, if it's needed would be March 28 in Midale, and Game 7 would be on the 29th in Bienfait.

The Coalers are seeking their fourth straight league title.

Bienfait and the Redvers Rockets have both been eliminated from provincial contention.

The Coalers were knocked out by Wynyard in the Senior A South Final. Wynyard won the best-of-three series in three games, even though all three official contests were played in Bienfait.

After Bienfait took Game 1, Game 2 was originally played in Wynyard in early March – a game that Wynyard won. But the result was overturned because Wynyard iced an ineligible player, and so Game 2 was replayed March 16 in Bienfait. Wynyard won 4-2.

The following night, Wynyard scored early in overtime to take Game 3 3-2.

As for the Rockets, they lost Game 2 4-1 in Radville on March 14, and were swept in the best-of-three Senior C South Final.
