Two acts at After Dark

Comments

Belle Plaine played jazz, folk and country music during their set.

The latest performance in the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum's (EAGM) After Dark concert series on February 28 featured groups that played jazz tunes and other musical genres.

Belle Plaine was the featured act. Fronted by Melanie Hankewich, Belle Plaine performed several of their own songs, and the music of other groups. After each song, Hankewich discussed Belle Plaine's experiences in the music industry, including their recent trip to a folk music convention in Kansas City.

Jazz, folk and country music – most of it with a slower beat – were performed by Belle Plaine.

The Estevan Comprehensive School's Face in the Space jazz quartet was the opening group. They performed a number of instrumental jazz standards.

The group consists of band director Kyle Whitehead and students Matthew Grunert, Kyle Goulet and Everett Schwab. Most of the musicians performed multiple instruments. Whitehead said the students receive a more intensive jazz experience.

The next concert in After Dark will be on Thursday, March 13, starting at 8 p.m. B.C. alternative-country music singer Sean Hogan will be the performer.
