Jazz and pop music at After Dark

Jazz and pop music will be showcased during the next After Dark program at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum on Friday, February 28.

The Estevan Comprehensive School's Face in the Space band and singer Belle Plaine will be performing. Doors will open at 8 p.m.

Face in the Space is a jazz ensemble composed of students, led by ECS music teacher Kyle Whitehead. The up-and-coming musicians will demonstrate their skills while playing a number of selections.

The music of Belle Plaine (real name Melanie Hankewich) is a throwback to the vocal jazz of the 1960s, thanks to the lyrics, her voice and her back-up band.

Her first recording, Hello from Belle Plaine, was released in 2011, and the following year, she released her first full-length album, Notes from a Waitress.

She was also a featured entertainer prior to and during the Juno Awards in Regina last year.
