The 2014 Oscars are coming up very quickly (March 2), and even though I’m not a major movie buff, the Oscars always seem entertaining to watch.
This year I’m going to step it up a notch and have a little Oscar party (even if it only ends up being the tall one and me). So first thing's first: if you’d like to throw your own, go now…yes now…and set your DVR to record it. Recording isn’t a necessity, I guess, but it at least lets you skip commercials and boring speeches.
Next up, plan a few decorations. Gold is the most obvious choice. Using a silhouette of the Oscar trophy, you can add some gold glitter for a garland, snack bags or mini posters.
A red carpet is another obvious choice. You could use a red disposable table cloth to make red carpet runners for your table, and also one to be an actual runner in your entry way.
Near your entrance it would also be fun to have an Oscar backdrop so you can take a few paparazzi photos throughout the evening. Make your guests feel even more welcome by cutting out gold stars with their names on them to scatter around your house.
It’s not a party without food, and you can go as simple or as lavish as you like. Popcorn goes well with the movie theme, and you could have a small bar of mix ins to add to your salty treat. Whatever you choose to drink, it’ll likely be more fun in champagne flutes.
One of my favourite things about any awards show is guessing who will win and making my picks. If you hop on over to the Studio DIY blog, you can download a free printable Oscar Ballot, where you can cast your vote for all the major awards.
A fun little incentive might be some inexpensive prizes that can go to those who get the most correct.
Lastly, in preparation for your party, you might want to check the list and actually watch a few of the movies, if you haven’t already.
