Midget AA Bruins have been busy


The Estevan Apex Midget AA Bruins have been busy in league play, as they played three times from February 14 to 16.

The first game was a 6-5 loss to the league-leading Moose Jaw Warriors on February 14. Moose Jaw led 4-0 in the second period and 6-2 in the third, but Estevan scored three times in less than five minutes to pull within a goal, with 12 minutes remaining.

But the Bruins couldn't muster the tying goal.

Kaelan Holt scored twice for Estevan. Kolten Ganson, Blaine Herzberg and Dylan Lay also scored.

The next game was a 4-2 loss to the Regina Wild on the 15th. Herzberg and Cole Piche scored for Estevan.

Estevan and the Melville Millionaires skated to an 8-8 draw on February 16. Estevan led 8-2 with 10 minutes to play in the second, but Melville scored six times in 14 minutes to tie the game. Neither team scored in the final 15 minutes.

Kyle Salaway led Estevan's offensive attack with three goals, and Holt had a goal and three assists. Kale Little and Kolten Ganson each had a goal and two helpers. Herzberg and Tyler Hengen had the other goals.

Josh Giblett contributed three assists.

Landon Audet was in goal against Moose Jaw, and Tanner Tytlandsvik was the goalie against the Wild. Both goalies played against Melville.

Estevan recovered with a 7-4 victory over Weyburn on February 19. (Information on the game was not immediately available).

Those games left Estevan with a 18-12-4 record. They will wrap up the regular season by visiting the Swift Current Hurricanes on the 22nd and Moose Jaw on the 23rd.


The Estevan TS&M Bantam AA Bruins wrapped up their regular season with a 9-3 loss to the Yorkton Terriers on February 14.

Yorkton jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period en route to the victory. Josh Skjonsby, Wyatt Haux and Ryder Pierson had Estevan's goals.

Ethan Veroba and Jeremy Dumaine shared the goaltending duties.

Estevan finished the season with a 17-10-4 record, which left them fourth in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League's South Division. They'll play the Melville Millionaires in the first round of the playoffs.

Cole Fonstad finished fourth in league scoring with 35 goals and 68 points in 31 games.


The Estevan Sherritt Coal Peewee AA Bruins tied the Weyburn Wings 4-4 on February 16. Cale Adams and Kersey Reich scored in the first period to give Estevan a 2-0 lead. After Weyburn fought back to tie the game, Adams and Reich scored again to restore Estevan's two-goal lead.

Weyburn scored twice in the third to force the draw.

Estevan's record is 5-11-3. They'll close out the regular season by visiting Weyburn on February 22.


The Estevan Gem Well Atom AA Bruins won two of the three games that they played from February 15 to 17.

Estevan's first game was an 8-7 win over Melville on February 15. Parker Bell had three goals and an assist, and Benjamin Wagstaff and Tayce Miller each had a goal and two helpers. Boden Dukart, Max Wanner and Kordel Duncan had the other goals.

The next game was a 4-1 win over Weyburn on the 16th. Trey Wahl scored twice, and Bell and Miller had Estevan's other goals.

Estevan then lost 6-5 to the Moosomin Ice Badgers in a back-and-forth contest. Moosomin scored the winning goal in the final minute.

Wagstaff had a hat trick for Estevan. Bell and Blayze Siebert also scored.

Layne Gilroy was in goal for all three games.

The Atom AAs finished the season with a 4-3 loss to Weyburn on February 19. (Information on the game was not immediately available).

Estevan had a 9-10-1 record in league play during the regular season.
