Local youth had the opportunity to showcase their basketball shooting skills during the Estevan Knights of Columbus' free throw competition February 12.
Boys competed at Sacred Heart School, while girls were at St. Mary's School. Competitors, who were between the ages of 10 and 14, were divided into groups based on age.
The winners of each age group then advanced to a final round to determine a champion.
The age group winners among the boys were: Kyler Dutka from Sacred Heart was the 10-year-old champion with 14 buckets; Spruce Ridge's Reilly McGeough in the 11-year-old group with 16 buckets; St. Mary's School's Kersey Reich in the 12-year-old group with 19 shots; Sacred Heart's Reegan Robinson in the 13-year-old division with 16 buckets; and Spruce Ridge's Carson Benning in the 14-year-old group with 18 buckets.
McGeough then sank 15 shots in the final to win the overall boys' title.
In the girls' event, the age group winners were: St. Mary's Haylee Jones in the 10-year-old class with 15 buckets; Spruce Ridge's Ruth Pecson in the 11-year-old age group with 14 shots; St. Mary's Oceanna Michel in the 12-year-old group with nine; Sacred Heart's Tatiana Dutka in the 13-year-old division with 13; and Spruce Ridge's Victoria Schiestel in the 14-year-old age group with 11 buckets.
Pecson won the girls' event by sinking 17 shots in the final round.
