Ralph Jordon Croucher, better known by his performing name of JRDN, is hoping for a breakthrough on the Canadian music scene.

The R&B recording artist will be in Estevan on February 23 as one of the opening acts for Hedley when the award-winning pop-rock group makes their return to Estevan. JRDN, Danny Fernandes and Alyssa Reid will each get to showcase their skills as the opening acts.

“I'm going to give them some the stuff they might be familiar with from the last project, and then, of course, some new songs from the EP,” said JRDN, who promised fans it will be a gimmick-free performance.

This will be the first time that JRDN has been in Estevan, and he's looking forward to visiting the city.

JRDN's most recent EP, Love Ain't Enough, was released on iTunes recently. The reaction from those who have heard the music has been great, he said, and it helped secure JRDN's first Juno nomination for top R&B artist.

“I'm really happy,” said JRDN. “Being away from the market for a few years, to come back and still be recognized on that stage, it makes you feel good.”

It makes the sacrifices and the challenges associated with the music industry worthwhile, he said.

He's hopeful that touring with Hedley could have a big impact on his career. The last time Hedley was through Estevan, two of the opening acts were Kay and Classified, and they've enjoyed considerable success recently.

“I hope it will definitely open up the fan base a bit,” said JRDN. “Even though … we're totally different genres, I plan on gaining some fans along the way.

“And it'll be great just to have the experience of being on arena stages. It'll give me a different perspective when it comes to song-writing and creating new music in the future.”
Coincidentally, Classified and JRDN are friends from the Halifax music scene, and they have toured together five times.

Hedley's Wild Live tour, which features JRDN, Fernandes and Reid, kicks off February 14 in Prince George, B.C. JRDN said he performed for Hedley two years ago in Peterborough, Ontario, but this will be the first time he has been with them extensively.

Tickets for the concert in Estevan are still available.
