The South East Cornerstone Public School Division announced on February 11 that director of education Dr. Marc Casavant has submitted his resignation, effective July 31.

Casavant has been Cornerstone's director of education for nearly five years. He has accepted a position as the deputy director of education with the Prairie Valley School Division, whose head offices are in Regina.

Prairie Valley has schools in several Regina suburbs and in east-central Saskatchewan.

In a press release, Casavant said he looks forward to working in Prairie Valley, and creating opportunities for students to perform to their highest potential.

He is also looking forward to working with the new board of education and its stakeholders to ensure equitable opportunities and smooth transitions for all students, and to continue the work with the province on the educational sector plan.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the South East Cornerstone Public School Division over the past five years, and have enjoyed the working relationships formed, initiatives undertaken and the progress made in creating opportunities for the success and achievement of all students," said Casavant.

"I am looking forward to continuing the work of education in this province and collaborating with the partners in education to improve the educational outcomes of our students. This new role represents a positive move towards furthering my career goals and provides more opportunities for my family to pursue personal and professional interests."

The board will begin the recruitment process for the new director of education, with details available on the Cornerstone website.
