Men's and women's bonspiels in Estevan

Becca Gustafson and Brittany Wilhelm laugh as they get ready to sweep Katie Methot's rock in the women's bonspiel. The team, skipped by Chelsey Peterson, won the A final.

Seven women's teams and six men's teams were entered in the annual bonspiels at the Power Dodge Curling Centre on January 31 and February 1.

In the women's event, the Brittany Wilhelm rink won the A final over Leah Evans. The Wilhelm rink was skipped by Chelsey Peterson, while Wilhelm was the second. Other team members were third Becca Gustafson and lead Katie Methot.

In the women's B event, Helen Fornwald defeated the Estevan Comprehensive School senior girls' team, which is skipped by Karlee Fessler. And F-Plus Welding, skipped by Jade Ivan, beat Joan Phair in the C final.

(Scores from the women's finals were not available).

On the men's side, the entry skipped by Riley Wallewein edged Adam Himmelspach 4-3 in the A final.

The bonspiel was a family affair for the Wallewein rink. Riley's father, Ken, was the third. Riley's uncle, Kevin, was the second, and cousin Lucas was the lead.

Layne Hawrylak beat the ECS senior boys team, skipped by Connor Marcotte, 6-5 in an extra end.

And Arol Phair beat Ashley Wallster in the C final. (The score was not available).

This year's bonspiels featured a pool format. Each team played three games. Teams were seeded based on their record. Tie-breakers were used, when necessary, based on the number of ends in which teams scored points.
