Panthers get three of four points

The Estevan Power Tech Midget AA Panthers scooped up three of a possible four points in home games against the league-leading Regina Capitals.

Estevan jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, and beat the Capitals 5-3 on February 1. Jenna Kreklewich had two of the first period goals, while Haley Ronyk also scored in the frame and assisted on both of Kreklewich's goals.

Jenna Grube scored in the second to extend the lead to 4-0. But Regina scored three times in six minutes to pull within a goal.

Kreklewich scored her third of the game in the third to give Estevan a two-goal advantage.

Litesha Spittal was in goal.

The following day, Kailey McLellan scored in the first and Macy Earl tallied in the second to give Estevan a 2-0 lead over Regina after two periods. But Regina scored twice in a three-minute span of the third to force the draw.

Brianna Cote was in goal.

Estevan's record in league play is 13-9-2. They'll close out the regular season when they visit the Notre Dame Hounds on February 13, the Regina Ravens on the 15th and the Weyburn Drillers on the 16th.

The Estevan Power Dodge Bantam A Chargers saw their quest for an unbeaten season come to an end, as they split league games against the Southwest Cyclones.

The first game was a 1-0 victory for Estevan on February 1. Megan LeBlanc had the lone goal in the contest; it came in the final minute of the first period.

The second game was a 2-1 victory for the Cyclones on February 2. Ashton Magotiaux scored 70 seconds into the second period to give Estevan a 1-0 lead. But the Cyclones scored twice in a four-and-a-half-minute span of the second to take the lead.

Ashlyn Taillon was in goal for Estevan in both games.

The Chargers' record is 19-1-1, with three games remaining. They lead the Cyclones by seven points in the overall standings, but the Cyclones have three games in hand.

Estevan's next scheduled league games are home games at the Civic Auditorium against the Springside Lions. They'll host the Lions on February 15 at 2:30 p.m., and on the 16th at 4:30 p.m.
