The Estevan Wildlife Federation saluted the hunting prowess of its members, as the organization held its annual awards night on February 1 at the Wylie-Mitchell building.

Recipients in each category were:

*Junior birds: Nate Smart for snow goose (six pounds, four ounces); Chase McNabb for pheasant total score (57); and Riley Pylychaty for Hungarian partridge (13 ounces), sharp-tail grouse (one pound, 15 ounces), mallard duck (three pounds, six ounces), and Canada goose (12 pounds, eight ounces).

*Senior birds: Jim Pylychaty for sharp-tail grouse (one pound, 15 ounces); Ralph Smart for Canada goose (14 pounds, 10 ounces); Sheldon McNabb for pheasant total score (64 3/4); and Murray Mosley for mallard duck (three pounds, 10 ounces), snow goose (six pounds, eight ounces), and ruffed grouse (one pound, two ounces).

*Junior fish: Riley Pylychaty for bass (two pounds, four ounces); and Skylar Millman for walleye (four pounds, six ounces).

*Senior fish: Rick Allen for walleye (six pounds, six ounces); Mark Michel for bass (six pounds, six ounces) and northern pike (19 pounds, seven ounces); and Murray Mosley for perch (one pound, two ounces), brook trout (one pound, five ounces), rainbow trout (three pounds, eight ounces), and tiger trout (two pounds, five ounces).

*Senior archery: Marcus Friess for non-typical mule deer (187 2/8"); Doug Van de Woestyne for black bear (15 7/16"); and Garry Leslie for typical white-tail deer (129 7/8"), typical mule deer (180"), and bowhunter of the year aggregate (228).

*Junior rifle: Hunter Chipley for typical white-tail deer (105 2/8"); Kalee Donovan for non-typical mule deer (173 3/8"); Justiss Daoust for moose (143 1/8"); and Shayna Hamilton for elk (247 3/8").

*Women's rifle: Julyn Halirewich for typical white-tail deer (123 4/8"); and Chelsey Petterson for moose (134 7/8").

*Men's rifle: Lorne Heinz for typical white-tail deer (151 4/8"); Joshua Michel for non-typical white-tail (157 1/8"); Brad Zukewich for typical mule deer (173 1/8"); Lance Mack for non-typical mule deer (167 2/8"); and Andre Grobler for moose (188 7/8").

The EWF also paid tribute to one of its avid youth hunters, Shayna Hamilton, who was profiled on the television series Maximus Outdoor Adventures. During the clip, Hamilton discussed some of her hunting experiences, and showed off antlers from mule deer and elk that she has harvested.
