Minor AA teams thrive in league play

The Atom AA Bruins defeated Moosomin 5-4 in a game January 25 at Spectra Place.

The Estevan Apex Midget AA Bruins scored three times in the first period, and added seven more in the third, in an 11-1 rout of the Yorkton Terriers on January 24 at Affinity Place.

Blaine Herzberg, Talys Halabuza and Kaelan Holt scored in the first period, and Holt added his second of the game with six minutes to play in the second to up the lead to 4-0. Yorkton scored their only goal of the game with a couple minutes to play in the middle frame.

The floodgates opened for Estevan in the third. Colton Winton started the barrage 22 seconds into the frame, and Holt added the next two goals. Colton Gingras scored to make the score 8-1, and then Ryley Gibblett scored twice and Dayton Westerman scored once to round out the scoring.

Landon Audet was in goal for the victory.

The Midget AA Bruins' record is 15-8-3. They have three upcoming road games in a three-day span, as they'll visit the Notre Dame Bantam AAA Hounds on January 31, the Melville Millionaires on February 1 and Yorkton on the 2nd.

The Estevan TS&M Bantam AA Bruins had a pair of convincing victories during a road trip to western Saskatchewan. They shut out the West Central Wheat Kings 4-0 in Dodsland on January 25, and trounced the Battlefords Barons 10-3 the following day.

Cole Fonstad scored the first two goals of the game against the Wheat Kings to give Estevan a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Wyatt Haux extended the lead to 3-0 with a goal in the second, and Brayden Pachal added the game's final goal in the third.

Ethan Veroba earned the shutout in goal.

Estevan raced out to a 5-0 lead by the 13-minute mark of the first period against the Barons, and cruised to the victory. Fonstad scored twice in the first period for the second straight game, while Preston Brodziak, Josh Skjonsby and Hayden Cutler also scored in the frame.

Brodziak would get two more goals over the final two periods for the hat trick. Cutler and Skjonsby each added one more goal. And Pachal also scored.

Jeremy Dumaine was in goal.

The Bantam AA Bruins' record is 15-9-3. They'll visit the Melville Millionaires on February 1, the Regina Foxes on the 3rd and the Monarchs on the 6th.

The Estevan Sherritt Coal Peewee AA Bruins were slated to play the Weyburn Youngfellows on January 29. (Results were not available at press time).

The peewees' record is 5-10-2. Their next two games are in provincial play against the Yorkton Terriers. Estevan will host Yorkton on February 1 at Affinity Place at 12:30 p.m., and they'll visit Yorkton on February 2.

The Estevan Gem Well Atom AA Bruins defeated the Moosomin Ice Badgers 5-4 on January 25 at Affinity Place. Estevan led 5-0 at one point in the second period, thanks to three goals in the first and two in the second, but Moosomin scored four straight goals to make the game interesting.

(Box score was not available).

The two teams were slated to play again on the 26th, but the game was cancelled due to road conditions.

Estevan's record is 7-6-1. Their next league games will be in Swift Current on February 8 and 9.
