"The coaches were very pleased by the first showing of our routines," said Lyons. "It is always nice to see what the routines will look like in the competitive pool and receive feedback from the judges. The athletes have been preparing very hard and were happy with their results. "
It was also the first opportunity for the athletes of the combined Southeast District Team – which boasts athletes from Estevan and Weyburn – to compete together.
In the 13 to 15 figures, Jillian Harder was sixth and Danika Poirier came in 10th. In the 16 to 18 age group, members of the Southeast District team had the following results: Hannah Whitman placed second, Kelsey Potoma came in fourth, Tracy Irwin was fifth and Eden Palmer finished sixth.
In the 16 to 18 solo division, Kelsey Potoma took the silver medal, while Brooke Kruger was fifth.
Hannah Whitman and Tracey Irwin of the southeast team earned a silver medal in the 16 to 18 duets.
And the district team came home with the gold in 13 to 15 team category. Members are Tracy Irwin, Brooke Kruger, Taylor Kuntz, Eden Palmer, Danika Poirier, Kelsey Potoma, Hannah Whitman and Alyssa Wieting of Estevan, and Jillian Harder and Savannah Pohl of Weyburn. Tess Rensby and Brenda Lyons are the coaches.
"The routine presented by the district team was strong and the fans in the crowd really enjoyed it," said Lyons. "The district's goal is to come home with a medal, so we have a lot of work to do in the next few weeks, but we feel that goal is obtainable."
