Two positions cut from City

Budget constraints have forced Estevan City Council to eliminate a couple of high-profile positions from the City of Estevan.

The events manager position at Leisure Services was one of the casualties. The other was a human resources (HR) job.

Mayor Roy Ludwig said that the two dismissals had nothing to do with job performance.

“We were just looking for efficiencies,” said Ludwig. “We're trying to see if we can keep things working and keep things moving with less help in those given areas.”

The events manager job was eliminated because the City is cutting back on the number of special events at Affinity Place, Ludwig said. The City wants to have four events this year, which is down from the number of events that the building hosted in its first three years.

The City had two HR employees before the job cuts occurred. Ludwig said those two individuals were sharing duties – hiring employees, orientating new staff and looking after other day-to-day workplace issues. Now those tasks will be handled by one person, although there will be some administrative assistance.
